The Canal, lined with Cordylines at one end, connects the two lochs. It is likely that this canal was dug out by the Royal Scots Greys or Inniskilling Fusilliers at the command of Field Marshall Lord Stair, the 2nd Earl of Stair who laid out the original Gardens here.
To the south of the canal, there is a parallel boundary wall of stone with a decorative listed gateway of wrought iron gates and distinctive finials of square-based pyramids resting on four balls in four locations.
